Hainan's Quiet Reputation

Before the surf,
there was the swing.

Hainan has been China's premier golf destination for more than twenty years — long before anyone was talking about surfing here. Volcanic terrain in the north, ocean coastlines in the east and south, and within an hour's drive you can tee off in three completely different landscapes.

The result is a quiet collection of world-class courses: China's #1 and #2 ranked courses, a Golf Digest World Top 100 layout, and one of Asia's most exclusive private clubs — all on a single tropical island. The HSBC Champions, the Omega Mission Hills World Cup, the Volvo China Open: if you watch professional golf, you've almost certainly watched a tournament on a Hainan fairway without knowing where you were looking.

And Yes — Tiger Has Teed Off Here

You read
that right.

This isn't a driving range with a celebrity brochure. The pros have actually played these fairways — on camera, in real tournaments, for real money.

“Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Greg Norman, Nick Faldo, and Gary Player have all played on Hainan's tropical fairways.”

Where You'll Play

Four courses,
one island.

A black-lava championship, a coastal links, a headland over the South China Sea, and one of Asia's most exclusive private clubs — you could spend a week playing Hainan and never repeat a landscape. We'll book tee times, transport, and English-speaking caddies. All you do is show up.

Mission Hills Blackstone — black-lava championship course

Mission Hills Blackstone

Schmidt-Curley · 2009 · Volcanic lava-rock

Mission Hills Haikou is the world's largest golf complex — ten championship courses carved out of black volcanic lava rock, all within a single resort. Blackstone is its featured course: a dramatic layout through volcanic rock and lush tropical scenery, and the venue where Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy went head-to-head in 2013. A true bucket-list destination for golfers who want real history, world-class design, and a setting you don't find anywhere else.

The Dunes at Shenzhou

Tom Weiskopf & Phil Smith · 2014 · Coastal links · Par 72

A coastal links shaped by sand dunes, ocean wind, and the South China Sea. Few golf courses in China have a setting like this — built along the coast with natural sand dunes, dramatic bunkers, and wide-open ocean views, it delivers a true links experience with a tropical island edge. Raw, cinematic, and deeply connected to the landscape. Just 30 minutes from the wave pool.

Lu Hui Tou Golf Club

Nelson & Haworth · 2009 · 7,310 yds · Par 72

Sanya's headland course — sea on one side, mountain on the other. Eighteen holes draped across the Lu Hui Tou peninsula, between the South China Sea and the green mountain ridge. Nelson & Haworth routed the course with elevation changes that give every approach a different angle. Pair the round with an evening at Rosewood Sanya and the polished island day arranges itself.

Shanqin Bay Golf Club

Coore & Crenshaw · The most exclusive private golf club in Asia
“Once ranked No. 8 in the world by Golf Digest. Not open to the public — not for sale, not for booking, not for the public eye.”

Shanqin Bay sits on a private stretch of Lingshui coastline behind locked gates. The club doesn't list tee times, doesn't accept walk-ins, and doesn't run a public booking system. Most golfers in China have never seen the course in person — let alone played it.

We hold internal access channels and, on a very limited basis, can submit a guest application on your behalf.

How access works
  • Every guest goes through an internal review of guest information by the club — not a guaranteed approval.
  • Cannot be booked on its own. Must be combined with rounds at our other championship courses as part of a package.
  • Spots are extremely limited and released at the club's discretion. We accept a small number of applications per season.
  • Not a standard program — reviewed on an application basis only.
