This is a surf and golf trip almost nobody knows exists — and it will blow your mind. Six days on a tropical island in China, surfing a PerfectSwell® wave pool every morning and playing two of Asia's finest golf courses in the afternoons. No crowds, no five-hour drives between venues, no compromises.

Most wave pool trips are only about the pool: you fly in, surf, get the clips, eat a burger, and fly home. A surf and golf trip in Hainan is different. The wave pool sits on a tropical island with real ocean surf, world-top-100 golf, five-star resorts, coffee plantations, and more than two thousand years of island culture — all within a couple of hours of each other.

Getting to Hainan is easier than you think

Hainan is China's tropical island province, and it runs its own visa-free entry policy: passport holders from the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada and many other countries get 30 days visa-free. No paperwork, no embassy queues.

There are direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Haikou (HAK), plus direct routes from Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul into Haikou or Sanya (SYX). After you land, our private executive van takes you straight to the wave pool — around two hours of coastline, coconut groves and buffalo fields. Full details in our getting here guide.

Day 1 — Land, transfer, check in steps from the waves

Your trip starts at Riyue Bay Surf Resort in Wanning, on Hainan's east coast — home of the world's only wave pool on a tropical island. Check into a five-star resort just steps from the pool, walk the beach, and get an early night. Waves come early here.

Days 2–4 — Surf, golf, repeat

This is the rhythm that makes the trip: perfect waves in the morning, world-class golf in the afternoon.

Mornings are for the PerfectSwell® pool. With around twenty wave settings — barrels, air sections, performance turns, mellow beginner walls — every surfer in your group gets waves matched to their level, with zero crowds and no waiting for sets.

Afternoons belong to The Dunes at Shenzhou Peninsula, widely rated the best links course in China and one of Asia's finest seaside layouts. Fescue-lined fairways run along the South China Sea headland fifteen minutes from the resort — the closest thing Asia has to true links golf, in board shorts weather.

In between, this is tropical China most people don't know exists: explore the coast, visit the Xinglong coffee plantations, eat your way through Wanning's local cuisine, paddle out at Riyue Bay's ocean break when the swell turns on, and step into two thousand years of island culture.

Surf the world's only tropical island wave pool in the morning. Play the best links course in China in the afternoon. Surf, golf, repeat.

Days 5–6 — Mission Hills, Blackstone & volcanic hot springs

Then head north to Mission Hills Haikou, check into the Ritz-Carlton, and play Blackstone — once a world top-100 course, and the stage where Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy went head to head. Its fairways cut through ancient black lava fields, creating one of the most distinctive volcanic golf landscapes anywhere in the world.
